Call for Application for XVIth OdCNP International Summer School "The End of History: Nuclear Weapons in the New Security Order"

Odesa Center for Nonproliferation (OdCNP) with the support of Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM) is pleased to announce the XVI OdCNP International Summer School on Arms Control, Nonproliferation, and Nuclear Security, titled "The End of History: Nuclear Weapons in the New Security Order". The event is held in Odesa, Ukraine, on August 10-15, 2026.

The OdCNP Summer School aims to bring together international experts on arms control, European security, and nuclear nonproliferation, alongside representatives of the younger generation working on related issues. The program will examine the nuclear dimension of global order challenges in the context of current international security challenges and its consequences for the global nuclear order.

Main Topics of the Summer School

  • Russian nuclear policy and nuclear blackmail;
  • U.S. nuclear policy and the future of arms control;
  • European security: challenges and responses;
  • disarmament and future directions in disarmament policy;
  • the expanding nuclear arsenal of China and the strategic alignment among Russia, China, North Korea, and Iran;
  • nuclear security, with a particular focus on the cases of Iran and Ukraine.

Eligibility

The Summer School is open to undergraduate and graduate (BA, MA, and PhD) students in both social sciences and technical fields, as well as young experts seeking to deepen their knowledge of strategic studies and the nuclear dimensions of international security.

The Summer School will be conducted in English, so the knowledge of English is essential.

Scholarship

The International Summer School will be offered in a hybrid format, allowing for both in-person and virtual participation (with a select number of participants).

This year, scholarships are available for Ukrainian students to cover expenses for in-person participation, including travel, accommodation and meals.

A limited number of places are available for self-funded international participants.
