Valeriia Gergiieva particiated in the General Session of Committee on Fuel and Energy Complex, Nuclear Policy and Nuclear Safety

On the 15th of September 2016 the junior research fellowof Odessa Center for Nonproliferation Valeriia Gergiieva attended general session of Committee on Fuel and Energy Complex, Nuclear Policy and Nuclear Safety ”Diplomatic front. Ways to strengthen Ukraine`s energy security”.

There were worldwide known experts in energy and national security questions: Edward Chow, a senior fellow in the Energy and National Security Program at CSIS; John Herbst, the director of the Atlantic Council's Dinu Patriciu Eurasia Center, former US ambassador to Ukraine; Creena Lavery, the First Secretary on Energy Policy and Head of Commercial section of the British Embassy to Ukraine; Johannes Bauer, Deputy Head of Energy group of the Support Group for Ukraine of the European Commission. Minister of Oil and Energy of Ukraine Ihor Nasalyk attended the meeting and gave a speech.

During the meeting experts focused more on the energy efficiency issues and it was determined that it cannot occur without reform. As well other issues were raised matters during the meeting: energy prices and availability, energy security and climate change issues. It was informed that the new ways of delivery are looking for at the moment, in the context of discussion about coal supplying through the ports, bypassing ATO zone. Also it is planned to increase the volume of energy resources output and energy exploration.

The key goal of the meeting was to make an issue of energy security more transparent and draw attention of all political bodies and organizations to the importance of reforms and current challenges in the energy field. Because energy diplomacy needs coordination of all efforts in the state.
