Call for Application for XVth OdCNP International Summer School “The new international order after Ukraine: nuclear deterrence, arms control and nonproliferation”

Odesa Center for Nonproliferation with the support of Swedish Radiation Safety Authority is pleased to announce the XV OdCNP International Summer School “The new international order after Ukraine: nuclear deterrence, arms control and nonproliferation”, which is held in Odesa, Ukraine on August 11-16, 2025.

The Summer School aims to gather international experts on strategic stability and nuclear non-proliferation together with an audience of motivated students interested in broadening education in nuclear related topics for 5 days in Odesa, first, to familiarize the latter with the basics of nonproliferation, disarmament and nuclear security; second, to develop the awareness of the main trends and challenges in the field in the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine; as well as to examine the consequences of the war ending for the international order.

The program also aims to foster analytical and independent thinking, facilitate the exchange of views, and promote lasting contacts with regional and international experts.

  • Key concepts of nuclear weapons, arms control and nonproliferation;
  • Nuclear Weapons States and Nuclear Deterrence updates;
  • The new US administration: the trends for European Security;
  • NATO and European Security: new challenges and responses;
  • Arms Control and Risk Reduction;

  • NPT and TPNW;
  • US-Iran talks and the future of the Iranian nuclear program;
  • Russia-Iran-DPRK cooperation;
  • Russia’s War on Ukraine and Nuclear Security.

Eligibility

The Summer School is open to undergraduate, BA, MA, and PhD students (both social sciences and technical specialities), as well as young experts who are interested in improving their knowledge in the field of strategic studies and nuclear dimensions of international security.

The Summer School will be conducted in English.

Scholarship

The International Summer School will be offered in a hybrid format, allowing for in-person and virtual participation (with a select number of participants).

This year, scholarships are available for Ukrainian students to cover expenses for in-person participation, including travel, accommodation and meals.

A limited number of spots are open for international students on a partially funded basis.
