Call for application for X Odessa Summer School “Current Challenges for Nonproliferation and Disarmament: Regional Perspectives”

OdCNP with the support of the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority and the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) organize the X Odessa International Summer School “Current Challenges for Nonproliferation and Disarmament: Regional Perspectives”, which is held in Odessa on August 23-28, 2020. The main aim of this Session – to increase the awareness of the young nonproliferation community in Europe and the Middle East on the current trends in the field of nuclear weapons policy, disarmament, nonproliferation and nuclear security.

The seminar is also aimed to promote the young generation´s analytical, independent thinkingand academic writing capacity and, as well to exchange and share views with international experts, and to train the presentation skills. The point of departure will be to improve non-proliferation and disarmament knowledge, develop analytical and research skills, and to promote contacts between participants and regions.

Main Topics of the Workshop

  • The EU nuclear nonproliferation and disarmament policy;
  • Nuclear security in the conflict regions;
  • Missiles control and proliferation;
  • The NPT and the NWBT: view from Europe and the Middle East;
  • Strategic arms control
  • The JCPOA role for the NPT regime
  • New technologies as challenges for strategic stability

Eligibility

  • Graduate students/PhD students of the universities of Ukraine (humanitarian and technical specialties);;
  • Young researchers (governmental & nongovernmental organizations, think-tanks and industries);
  • Graduate students/ Ph.D. students of the universities of EU/DAC states (humanitarian and technical specialties): We cover meals and accommodation, however sponsorship and limited slots for funding travel costs are available on a special request.

Travel expenses (for Ukrainian participants), accommodation and meals will be covered by organizers.
